A regular veterinary check-up is essential to look after your pet's health at every stage of its life. It not only allows you to treat diseases, but also to prevent and detect them before they become serious problems.
At Benivet Benissawe carry out complete and personalised veterinary check-ups for dogs, cats and other pets, tailoring each consultation to their species, age, size and lifestyle. Our team thoroughly assesses all aspects of the animal's health status, from general physical condition to behaviour and daily habits.
During the consultation, we review:
Weight, temperature and body condition
Condition of coat, skin, eyes, ears, teeth and gums
Cardiac, respiratory and locomotor function
Signs of chronic diseases, allergies or infections
In addition, we update your vaccination and deworming scheduleWe can answer nutritional questions and, if required, we can also carry out diagnostic tests such as blood, urine or imaging tests.
In older animals, we combine the check-up with geriatric assessmentsThe preventive guideline should be adapted to the needs of that stage.
The veterinary check-ups should not be done only when there are symptoms. Including them as part of routine care is key to ensuring your pet's well-being and longevity.
Real preventionWe identify health problems before they become serious, allowing us to act quickly and effectively.
Early detectionSubtle changes in behaviour or physical condition may indicate internal disturbances that go unnoticed at home.
Adapted careAt each check-up we adjust the guideline according to the life stage, breed, weight or clinical history of the animal.
Peace of mind for you: Knowing that your pet is well allows you to enjoy your pet without worries.
At Benivet Benissawe recommend that you carry out a complete veterinary check-up at least once a year. However, if your pet is a puppya senior or has a chronic pathology, it may be necessary to most frequent visits.
In addition, we take advantage of each review to answer questions about nutritionThe aim is to ensure that the patient's medical, behavioural or preventive health history is kept up to date.
According to the British Veterinary Association (BVA)Routine check-ups are essential to detect early signs of disease, even in apparently healthy animals.

A dog or cat’s health needs change throughout its life. That is why a veterinary check-up should not be exactly the same for a puppy, an adult animal or a senior pet.
At Benivet Benissa, we tailor each check-up to the patient’s age, species, size, lifestyle and medical history.
During the first few months, check-ups enable us to monitor growth and establish an appropriate preventive care plan. At this stage, we can assess:
Weight, growth and body condition.
Feeding and growth rate.
Teeth, skin, eyes and ears.
Behaviour and settling into the home.
Calendar of veterinary vaccination.
Guideline for internal and external deworming.
Identification, passport and preventative care.
The right time to assess the sterilisation or castration.
Is this your first appointment at the clinic? Enquire What to bring to your first appointment with your dog or cat.
In adult animals, check-ups focus on maintaining good health and detecting changes that might still go unnoticed at home.
In addition to the general examination, we check:
Weight and body condition.
Diet and activity levels.
The condition of the mouth, teeth and gums.
Skin, hair and ears.
Cardiac and respiratory auscultation.
Mobility and joint condition.
Vaccinations, worming and prevention of leishmaniasis.
When we identify overweight, loss of muscle mass or specific dietary requirements, we may recommend an assessment of veterinary nutrition. If any problems arise in the mouth, we can also extend the assessment through the veterinary dentistry.
As we get older, it becomes increasingly important to keep an eye on small changes in weight, mobility, appetite, fluid intake, urination or behaviour.
During a senior review, we can pay particular attention to:
Loss of weight or muscle mass.
Pain, stiffness or difficulty moving.
Changes in appetite or digestion.
Increased thirst or increased urine output.
Dental abnormalities.
Changes in vision, hearing or behaviour.
Cardiac and respiratory function.
The progression of chronic diseases.
Depending on the findings and the patient’s medical history, it may be advisable to complete the examination with a blood testsa urinalysis or other diagnostic tests.

If your dog or cat is suffering from vomiting, diarrhoea, loss of appetite, pain, breathing difficulties, urinary problems or any other specific symptom, it is best to seek a veterinary practice in Benissa.
The frequency of check-ups should be determined on a case-by-case basis. Age is an important factor, but species, breed, lifestyle, medical history and the presence of chronic conditions also play a part.

If it is necessary to complete the assessment or to personalise the preventive plan, we can indicate tests only when they provide useful information:

Blood tests y urinalysisespecially useful in senior petspreventive check-ups, weight loss, increased thirst/urination or treatment follow-up.

Coprological tests / stool analysisif there is recurrent diarrhoea, digestive changes or to confirm suspicion of parasites where appropriate.
Veterinary nutritionIf we detect overweight, loss of muscle mass, special needs or if you want a preventive diet plan.

Here is our timetable
Regular check-ups form the basis of preventative care. Based on these, other services or tests may be recommended depending on your pet’s age and state of health.
If, during the check-up, any symptoms or changes in health are detected that require a more detailed clinical assessment.
A check-up is the usual time to check the vaccination record and update the vaccination schedule.
Monitoring of internal and external parasite control programmes, tailored to the environment and the time of year.
Recommended for check-ups on older pets or when you wish to assess their general health in greater detail.
It provides information on kidney function and the urinary tract as part of preventive monitoring.
Advice on nutrition and weight management tailored to each pet’s age and physical condition.
In general, an annual check-up is recommended for healthy adult pets. At puppies, cats and senior dogs or patients with chronic diseases, the frequency may be more frequent (every 6 months or according to veterinary indication). Regular check-ups allow problems to be detected before symptoms appear.
A full review usually includes:
General physical examination
Assessment of skin, ears, eyes and mouth
Cardiac and pulmonary auscultation
Weight and body condition monitoring
Review of joints
Vaccination and deworming check
If necessary, complementary tests are recommended, such as analyses, ultrasound or X-ray.
Many health problems start silently: kidney disease, hypertension, early tumours, dental problems, hormonal or cardiac diseases. Early detection allows for earlier treatment and improved prognosis.
Yes, cats often hide pain or discomfort, which is why a check-up requires a more detailed exploration and sometimes specific tests. There are also differences in vaccination, nutrition and prevention. At Benivet Benissa we have separate spaces that reduce feline stress during the visit.
We recommend bringing:
Passport or passport
Vaccination and deworming history
Usual medication
Previous reports if any
Recording of recent changes in behaviour, appetite or weight
This helps the veterinary team to have a more complete picture of your pet's condition.
Yes. During the review, an assessment is made as to whether it is appropriate to update vaccines, to apply internal or external dewormingor adjust the preventive plan. The reason, schedule and recommended frequency according to age and lifestyle are always explained.
